30th December 2013 � Our Universe
With the advancement in science and technology, it is important for the students to be in tune with the current and latest information about the remarkable inventions made in the field of science and technology. To stimulate the growing young minds of the students and to train them with basic space science, a Quiz Competition was organized for the students of Class � I on 30th December,2013. The theme of the competition was �Our Universe�. Twelve students were selected for the competition on the basis of their individual performance in the preliminary round. Six teams of two students each participated in the quiz. There were five rounds of questions in which multiple choice questions were asked. The students were asked questions about the galaxies, the constellations, the stars, the planets and other heavenly bodies. The competition successfully instigated the curiosity of the children and enhanced their knowledge about the universe.

27th December 2013 � Nurture Nature � Colouring Competition
Nature is the creation of God. It brings peace in our lives. Nature teaches us many values such as discipline, kindness, generosity, etc. It is important for children to learn and grow with.
In order to foster the imagination of children, a colouring competition was held for the students of Class Blooms on the theme �Nurture Nature� on 27th December 2013. This competition gave opportunity to children to showcase their colouring skills. Children participated in the competition with full zeal and enthusiasm. The event was a great success with maximum participation of children from all sections of Blooms.

26th December 2013 - QUIZ: Famous Destination
With the view to enhance the knowledge and awareness of the children, a quiz competition on the theme 'Famous Destinations' was organized for the children of class II on 26th December 2013. The quiz was conducted at two levels i.e. Preliminary and final. 12 children from all the sections of class II qualified for the final level of the quiz. They were divided into 6 teams. The final level consisted of four rounds- 'True or false' , 'Identify the Monuments' , 'Identify the country in which these monuments are located' and 'What are these countries famous for'?
The children learnt variety of facts about the famous destinations in different countries of the world; The Colosseum, The Statue of Liberty and The Leaning Tower of Pisa etc. It was an overwhelming experience to witness the interest that the children exhibited to learn about the myriad of multicultural experiences from around the globe.
The quiz was an amazing experience for the spectators and the participants as they got a twofold opportunity of acquiring and exhibiting knowledge about different places of the world.

18th December 2013 � Inter House Food Festival
Keeping in tune with the theme of the month �Travelling� SGS organized an Inter House Food Festival concentrating on International Flavors. A combo of a salad and a mock tail was beautifully presented with seasonings. Peace House was the proud winner for a unique �Canopy dish with a corn filling� �Russian Salad� dressed with lettuce leaves prepared by Harmony House got the second position. The third prize was bagged by Glory House and Pride House. The students enjoyed it thoroughly as it was a novel experience of learning by cooking international dishes without fire.
13th December 2013 � Nature is the Art of God
Nature can bring a lot of beauty in our lives. Nature has a way of affecting our moods. We should be so very thankful to the lord for giving us all the wonderful and miraculous things in nature. Learning to become more aware of nature can truly have a good effect on our lives in the way we look at things and in the way we feel about ourselves.
In order to sensitize and appreciate the value of nature, SGS organized a colouring competition for the classes of BUDS, on the theme �Nurture Nature� on 13th December 2013 to give opportunity to children to showcase tier colouring skills. Children participated with full zeal and enthusiasm and exhibited their talent in art by colouring beautiful scenery on nature.
The event was a great success with 100% participation of children from all classes of BUDS.

Every child has some inborn talent. To bring out the skills of very child a �Talent Hunt� was conducted for the students of classes Buds � Blooms on 29th November 2013. Students displayed their talents ranging from singing, dancing to acting. The performances were breath taking and the audiences were happy to see such wonderful props. This competition helped the children in building self confidence and self esteem. The competition was thoroughly enjoyed by one and all.

27th November 2013 � Quiz: Plant Kingdom (Class II)
It is said that nature is the man�s best friend. With the intend of strengthening the relationship between man and nature an �Interschool Quiz competition� titled �The Plant Kingdom� was organized for the children of class II on 27th November 2013. The competition aimed at introducing the green kingdom to the young children. Six teams participated in the competition and they were asked a range of questions related to plants. The competition consisted of various rounds like: Identify the plant and its type, identify the parts of the plant etc. All the children participated confidently with a lot of fervor. For the first time the children came across the words like chlorophyll and photosynthesis.
The competition spread awareness about trees and plants and their significance in our life every day. The children also enjoyed the competition as they were enlightened with various hard to believe facts like � A strawberry has 200 seeds and a bamboo tree can grow up to 36 inches in a day.
The competition proved to be a good learning experience for the children. It taught them to be sensitive towards plants and nature and encouraged them to do their bit to save nature.

An interclass quiz competition was held on 27th November, 2013 based on the theme: Plant Kingdom. Twelve students were selected for the competition on the basis of their individual performance in the preliminary round. Six teams of two students each participated in the quiz. There were six rounds of questions in which multiple choice questions were asked. The participants were full of confidence and enthusiasm. The competition served as an assessment tool to check the knowledge of the students. It was a thoroughly fruitful endeavor.

�Poetry is the universal language which the heart holds with nature and itself�.
Poetry is the best medium to let the imaginations soar. With the quest of giving their imagination a flight, an interclass Rhyme Recitation Competition was organized for the children of class II. The theme of the competition was �My Dream World�. The children participated enthusiastically to unveil their idea of a dream world. The children spoke with a lot of confidence and the use of props and colourful costumes added elegance to the performance of these budding talents. Children made beautiful props using their own photograph to depict their own dream world. It was an enriching experience for the children, as they got an opportunity to showcase their confidence, talent and imaginations.

Rhyme recitation is an art of expression of thoughts and understanding towards English literature. An interclass English Rhyme Recitation Competition was held on 20th November 2013 for the students of Class � I. The theme of the competition was �Books�. Eighteen students were selected for the competition on the basis of their performance in the preliminary round. The students were full of confidence and poise. An interclass quiz competition was held on 28th October, 2013 based on the theme: Logos and Punchlines. Twelve students were selected for the competition on the basis of their individual performance in the preliminary round. Six teams of two students each participated in the quiz. They were asked to identify logos and punch lines of different brands and advertisements such as �Eat Healthy, Think Better�. Daag Achche Hain� etc. They were also asked to identify cartoon characters and super heroes like Doraemon, Spiderman etc.
There was a healthy competition amongst all the team. It was a great learning experience for the students as they enjoyed the quiz very much.

Stories with moral lessons teach children about being sensitive and accepting the values of friendship and loyalty, courage and honesty, overcoming obstacles and apologizing. In order to instill these positive values in the children a moral story telling competition was organized for the students of class I on 24th October 2013. Students participated with great enthusiasm and fervour. Some of them were dressed in appropriate costumes and carried props to depict their story.

Every Story with a moral in scripts instills a thought in our mind � a thought of making our self a better human being. With a theme of inculcating moral values in the students a moral story telling competition was organized for the students of class II on 22nd October 2013.
Beautiful moral tales and fables based on the themes like loyalty, love, courage strength and togetherness were presented by young students.
The children participated with great enthusiasm with them, which added beauty to their words.
The auditorium echod with the sounds of moral preaching as the children narrated and enacted their stories beautifully.
The competition was indeed a good learning experience for each one of us.

To welcome the upcoming festival season, a �Hindi Rhyme Recitation� Competition was held on 26th September 2013 for the children of Blooms. Children recited rhymes on various festivals such as Diwali, Dussehra, Holi, Rakhi and Christmas, etc. displaying beautiful props. The audience enjoyed watching the participants performing in different attires. This competition helped the children develop, better fluency in Hindi language. 16th September 2013 � Just A Minute: Hamari Rashtra Bhasaha Hindi
Just a minute (JAM) competition was organized for the children of class II on the occasion of �Hindi Diwas�. The theme of the competition was, �Humari Rashtra Bhasha Hindi.� All the children participated enthusiastically to honour their national language. They spoke beautiful lines and poems highlighting the beauty and importance of our national language Hindi. The competition was also a good learning experience for everybody, as the children presented various facts about the national language and its contribution to the other languages of the world.

27th August 2013 - Bilt Art & Me Painting Competition
Painting Competition was organized on 27th August 2013 for the young artists of classes III � VIII in collaboration with �Bilt 10/10 Art & Me Painting Contest�. The topic of the contest was �My Dream�. It motivated the students to show their talent by sketching / painting their dreams with the help of pencil, colours and drawing sheets. Students painted their ambitions, beautiful scenes of nature, fun time with their family and friends, cartoon characters, chocolate world etc. Some children even painted their horror dreams. It was a funfilled experience for the kids to paint their imagination on papers.

14th August 2013 - Inter-house Debate Competition
The right to express our opinion, the right to be heard, the right to free speech is one of our fundamental rights. It is the gift of Democracy. It is the sign of independence, so what better way to celebrate our 66th year of Independence than debate. In the words of Jesse Jackson Delibration and debate is the way you stir the soul of our democracy.
On 14 August 2013, am Inter-house Debate Competition was organised on the topic, �Universal brotherhood is more important than patriotism�. The event provided the students a platform to express their ideas, opinion, and thoughts on the topic. Soon a soul stirring, energetic, and heated debate ensued where students came up with arguments on both the importance of patriotic fervour and significance of Universal brotherhood in the age of globalization.
The debate saw two students from each house speaking in the favour and against the motion. While some students argued that patriotism is the pillar on which a nation stands, others argued that it�s a mere step towards attaining universal brotherhood. Great visionaries like Buddha, Christ, Confucius, all carried the baton of universal brotherhood while some students felt that to attain universal brother hood it is imperative to first establish internal brotherhood within a country Charity begins at home.
The head of our school, Mrs. Novita Chopra and Academic coordinator Mrs. Sumana Dutta chaired the session. They applauded the performance of the participants. Harmony House stood first, while the second position was bagged by Pride House. The awards for first best speaker went to Ipsa Jaiswal of class X A and second best speaker to Tanya Dhankar of Class IX B.
14th August 2013 - Fancy Dress Competition (Freedom Fighters)
The students of class I rekindled the spirit of patriotism and remembered our great freedom fighters by participating in the Fancy Dress Competition based on the theme �Freedom Fighters� held on 14th August 2013.
Young enthusiastic children beaming with joy, looking all confident, were dressed beautifully in attires of various freedom fighters such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawahar Lal Nehru, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose etc. They spoke confidentially and projected their character very well. Through this competition the students gave a tribute to our freedom fighters because of whom we are breaking in Independent India.

12th August 2013 - Fancy Dress Competition (Freedom Struggle)
�Let freedom never perish in your hands�
With the view of keeping the fragrance of freedom alive, a Fancy Dress Competition was organized to mark the 67th year of Indian Independence. The competition based on the theme, �Freedom Struggle� was organized on 12th August 2013.
Students of class II participated with alacrity and enthusiasm unveiling their feelings of love and patriotism towards their motherland. The children dressed as national leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Rani Lakshmi Bai and Bhagat Singh etc. flashed the memories and contribution of our freedom fighters. The auditorium echoed with the sounds of inspiring poems like � �khoob Ladi Mardani woh to Jhansi wali rani thi� etc, filled every heart with pride and honour.
This competition not only helped in enhancing the personality of the children, but also gave them an opportunity to understand the meaning of Independence. The competition was indeed a tribute to our national leaders who sacrificed their lives to save their mother land.

24th July 2013 - Quiz Competition
An Inter House Quiz competition was organized by SGS for the students of classes VI � VIII on 24.07.2013. There were four teams representing four houses namely Glory, Pride, Peace and Harmony. Each team had 3 students, one from each standard (VI � VIII).
The quiz consisted of 7 rounds:

Quiz started with the Head of School, Mrs. Novita Chopra and Head of Academics, Mrs. Sumana Dutta wishing children good luck. As the quiz progressed, the enthusiasm and excitement of all the students doubled up and led the event to success!
All the participating teams came up with good answers during the quiz and enjoyed every round.
17th July 2013 - Inter House Volleyball Final
SGS Inter House Volleyball Competition final 2013 was played on Wednesday, 17th July 2013.
During the preceding week number of matches were played between the House teams. Students enjoyed and learned a number of skills as well.
Harmony House pulled maximum points to beat three other houses.
Pride House came IInd while, Glory House was adjudged IIIrd.

14th May 2013 - KAVITA PRATIYOGITA : PRAKRITI
Hindi kavita pratiyogita was held on 14 May 2013 for the students of Class � I. The theme of the competition was �Prakriti�. The students were well prepared with the props and the costumes related to their presentation. Some of the students were dressed up vibrantly with innovative props. The confidence level of the students was very high. This competition gave them the opportunity to showcase their talents.

29th April 2013 - Fancy Dress Competition
Theme � Nature
�Our task must be to free Ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its Beauty�.
The students of classes �BUDS� and �BLOOMS� showcased their talent through enactment on various aspects of nature like water, flowers, trees, clouds etc. Through this activity children spoke about the importance of nature and how to conserve it. Summing up the essence that we need to create a world where we can live in harmony with nature. It�s true to the core that one touch of Mother Nature makes the whole world kin.
10th April 2013 - Best out of Waste (Inter House)
Going with the theme of the month, (Mother Earth). SGS conducted an Inter House Competition for the students of classes VI-VIII on Wednesday, 10th April, 2013 wherein students showed their wonderful skills of giving shape to their innovative ideas by using waste material. It aimed at the practicing concept of 3R�s (reduce, reuse & recycle) to preserve the environment. Students made varied items like Robots, pen holder, dresses, models and many more. Their earnest efforts were acknowledged in the following assembly on Friday, 12th April 2013where the winners were applauded and given away the certificates.
