Our Green Pledge
At SGS we understand, appreciate and value our green gold (environment). It is important that this precious gift is nurtured, preserved and reserved for the next generation. To ensure our students become global green citizens they are sensitized through awareness programmes, participate in van-mahotsav celebrations and practice and preach the golden rule – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
27th December 2013 – Nurture Nature – Colouring Competition
Nature is the creation of God. It brings peace in our lives. Nature teaches us many values such as discipline, kindness, generosity, etc. It is important for children to learn and grow with.
In order to foster the imagination of children, a colouring competition was held for the students of Class Blooms on the theme “Nurture Nature” on 27th December 2013. This competition gave opportunity to children to showcase their colouring skills. Children participated in the competition with full zeal and enthusiasm. The event was a great success with maximum participation of children from all sections of Blooms.

17 December 2013 – Green Living: Compositing
“Waste is not waste until wasted”
Composting is an effective and environmentally friendly solution for turning yard waste and kitchen scraps into a beneficial soil amendment. The students of classes VI – X from Sachdeva Global School went to Highland Apartment, Sector 18A, Dwarka for creating compost pits in their society.
A group of 8 students went there and spoke to the people of the society about the benefits of having compost pits in their own society. Students selected the location for composting with the help of president of the society and the gardener. They dug a pit and put layers of different organic materials into it and then they watered each layer of top soil. The students will be going to the society once a week for effective composting. It was a small initiative by the eco club members to reduce the amount of solid waste generated by Highland appt.

13th December 2013 – Nature is the Art of God
Nature can bring a lot of beauty in our lives. Nature has a way of affecting our moods. We should be so very thankful to the lord for giving us all the wonderful and miraculous things in nature. Learning to become more aware of nature can truly have a good effect on our lives in the way we look at things and in the way we feel about ourselves.
In order to sensitize and appreciate the value of nature, SGS organized a colouring competition for the classes of BUDS, on the theme “Nurture Nature” on 13th December 2013 to give opportunity to children to showcase tier colouring skills. Children participated with full zeal and enthusiasm and exhibited their talent in art by colouring beautiful scenery on nature.
The event was a great success with 100% participation of children from all classes of BUDS.

11th December 2013 – Nature Walk
‘One touch of nature makes the whole world kin’
There is so much beauty all around us to see, touch and hear. Nature is so miraculous because it is always changing. No matter how many times you look at something, it is always different.
In order to welcome and feel the beauty of nature, SGS organized a ‘Nature Walk’ for the classes of BUDS in sec-18, Dwarka park on 11th December 2013.
The children saw beautiful flowers and leaves. The importance of why we need to plant more trees was discussed with the children, thereby telling the children how we as individuals can contribute towards the environment.
We hope that this endeavour will be a steping stone towards student’s involvement in conserving and preserving our mother nature and thus making the children understand that nature is truly an important part of our lives.
25th November 2013 – Grocery Bag Project
“Say no to plastic bags and yes to life”
At SGS we understand, appreciate and value our green gold (environment).Grocery bag project is a small step for better future. The grocery bag project was done by the students of classes III to X and this is the fourth consecutive year of continuing to spread awareness about the use of paper bags rather than plastic. Grocery bags were made by the students of Eco club and were distributed among all students of the school. They coloured and decorated the eco friendly bags and wrote slogans and messages on them. 800 such bags were returned to the Grocery stores in Dwarka where the customers got the message loud and clear! Students also interacted with the customers and motivated them to use handmade bags made of cloth or jute.
25th November 2013 – E - Waste Management
'A Commitment For Green Earth’
We live in a world saturated with technology. It's no surprise that many households and companies today find themselves saddled with used or IT equipment. It needs effective management. So SGS started e-waste management project. The objective of the project was to collect maximum amount of e-waste from the school and then send it to legal recycler company.
SGS E-WASTE JOURNEY
- The project was started on 1st September 2013, in collaboration with Nokia (Planet ke Rakhwale School Programme)
- A team of 7 students was made.
- Project was introduced and discussed with the students during assembly.
- E-waste collection point was made.
- Workshops were conducted to create awareness about the harmful effects of E-waste.
- Wednesday’s were fixed as e-waste submission day.
- Creative media tools like Puppet shows and promotional videos were used to motivate the students and sensitize their minds.

- 3 E-waste collection drives were carried out.
- Efforts bore fruits and students started donating their e-waste.
- Till now we have collected 113 kg of E-WASTE out of which 61kg (excluding 150 CFL and 36 Mobile phones) has already been given to Nokia for recycling.

October 2013 – Environmental Issues and Concerns - Street Play

They regularly conduct street plays in public areas to sensitize the community about the importance of environment.
31st October 2013 - Global Greens - Globalite For Environment
The students of classes VI – X from Sachdeva Global School adopted a society park and went on a plantation drive to samrat ashoka enclave, sec-18, Dwarka.
A group of 20 students went there and owned 1 – 2 plants each. The head of the school Mrs. Novita Chopra and Academic Supervisor, Sumana Dutta initiated the drive by planting the first tree in the garden. We planted different types of palms, ashoka trees.
The students will be going to the society once a week for the maintenance of the plants. It was a small initiative by the eco club members for the betterment of our environment.
We believe in M. K. Gandhi who rightly said “Be the change you want to see in the world”
30th October 2013 - ANTI CRACKER CAMPAIGN
Crackers hold a fascination for both young and old alike. Children being the largest consumers of crackers, need to be educated about its harmful after effects to their health and environment. Taking up this cause Sachdeva Global School decided to organize an anti-cracker Campaign.
On 30th October 2013, Eco Club students went out to Sector -6 market holding banners and placards denouncing the use of crackers and even approaching shopkeepers not to sell noisy and polluting crackers. 35 students took part in it. They shouted slogans and gave message to the society for not polluting the air by bursting crackers. They also took the pledge to save the environment by not making air and noise pollution on Diwali. They decided not to buy crackers and money saved so will be utilized productively. They also staged a street play for raising public awareness about environmental degradation due to bursting of crackers. Students also did a survey wherein they spoke to the crackers sellers and found that every year the sell of crackers is being decreased by 20% and this change is the result of awareness programmes only.
8th October 2013 – Start Today, Save Tomorrow
A painting competition was organized for classes IX - X. On the topic ‘Start Today, Save Tomorrow’. The topic was given keeping in mind today’s need to save our environment. It thought the students to start the work by taking initiatives to save water, trees, energy, etc. today and save earth for tomorrow. Students made beautiful paintings depicting the concerns and the measures to conserve environment.
20th September 2013 – International Day for Preservation of Ozone Layer
Students of class III-B conducted an assembly on 20th September 2013. The topic of the assembly was –‘International Day for Preservation of Ozone Layer’. Children began the assembly by presenting the news bulletin which was followed by the ‘Enactment’. This Enactment highlighted the Ozone layer, Its use, depletion, chemicals causing Ozone depletion, Ozone hole and measures that can be taken to prevent Ozone depletion.
This was followed by a short, informative speech on the ‘International Day for Protection of Ozone Layer’ (Sept. 16)
Later on, Respected Novita Ma’am elaborated more on the topic by asking questions from children and giving useful information regarding Ultraviolet radiations.
All in all, the assembly was very informative and it was another small step towards SGS contribution for environmental initiatives.
13th September 2013 - Germination of Seeds
Learning the concept of ‘Germination of seeds’ created a new arena for the children of Blooms to explore on 13th September 2013. Each student was given the responsibility for growing his/her own plant. Disposable glasses were first filled with soil. Each student was given a few kidney beans. The soil was dug and the seeds were sown. All students watered the newly sowed seeds. The students were then taken out along with their glasses for getting sunlight needed for the seeds to grow. These glasses are displayed on the windows of each class so that the students can check the daily growth. The activity was thoroughly enjoyed by one and all.
6th September 2013 – Eco Initiative
Students of Classes IV – V of Sachdeva Global School, conducted an activity which aimed at spreading awareness for Environment Conservation.
Their main agenda was – INCREASE HANDPRINTS AND REDUCE FOOTPRINTS!
‘They took a pledge to save nature till last breath’ – and to support this cause each one of them put up a ‘HANDPRINT’ on the soft board.
Children thoroughly participated and enjoyed this eco initiative activity to save environment and imbibed the thought that environment conservation is everyone’s equal responsibility.
4th August 2013 – Paryavaran Mitra
S. Padmashree, young leader of Sachdeva Global School and our ECO-CLUB incharge Ms. Megha Chaudhary got the golden opportunity to present their Young Leader Action plan of ‘WASTE SEGREGATION’ before Mr. Sudhir Kumar Sinha, Country Head, CSR, Arcelor Mittal and Mr. Pramod Sharma from CEE at Arcelor Mittal Headoffice New Delhi .The action plan was appreciated by them and they also gave some suggestions to make it more productive and appreciated the school efforts to contribute towards environment. It was a confidence boost and a great learning experience for the child.
8th July 2013 – Van Mahotsav
Class I-C presented an assembly on 8th July 2013 on the topic ‘Van Mahotsav’. Some students spoke about the importance of Van Mahotsav and need of planting trees to protect our environment. A rhyme was also presented by the students on the theme ‘Go Green’. It was followed by the ‘Thought of the day’. The students participated enthusiastically and their efforts were appreciated by the head of the school Mrs. Novita Chopra.
June 2013 - Paryavaran Mitra Puraskar 2013 (Best Student Award)
Thinking is easy, acting is difficult and to put one’s thoughts into action is the most difficult thing in the world
We are glad to announce that our school is selected for Paryavaran Mitra Young Leader for Change initiative 2013 by CSE, which is a nationwide initiative to create a network of young leader from schools across the country, who have the awareness, knowledge, commitment and potential to meet the challenges of environmental sustainability in their own spheres of influence. An action plan on waste segregation was submitted by the student of class X, S. Padmashree and she is declared eligible for Paryavaran Mitra Puraskar 2013 - Best Student Award.
12th April 2013 - Mother Earth
An activity was conducted by the children of Blooms based on the theme “Mother Nature”, where they made a collage.
A cutout of a tree was given to the children and they pasted crushed newspaper balls to form the leaves of the tree. After this activity the importance of why we need to plant more trees was discussed with the children. Hereby telling children how we as individuals can contribute towards environment.
10th April 2013 - Best out of Waste (Inter House)
Going with the theme of the month, (Mother Earth). SGS conducted an Inter House Competition for the students of classes VI-VIII on Wednesday, 10th April, 2013 wherein students showed their wonderful skills of giving shape to their innovative ideas by using waste material. It aimed at the practicing concept of 3R’s (reduce, reuse & recycle) to preserve the environment. Students made varied items like Robots, pen holder, dresses, models and many more. Their earnest efforts were acknowledged in the following assembly on Friday, 12th April 2013where the winners were applauded and given away the certificates.

5th April 2013 - Hand Printing Table Mats (Theme-Mother Nature)
Starting the session with the prints of their hands, the kindergarteners of Blooms made their own table mats on the theme ‘Mother Nature’. With the help of this activity they were made to understand how to conserve and preserve Nature. Along with it they were also taken for the Nature walk, exploring different types of flowers and trees.
12th February 2013 - Eco Meet cum Exhibition-2013
A team of four students of classes VI - VIII along with Science Teacher, Ms. Megha visited the Annual Eco Meet cum Exhibition which was organized by Govt. of NCT of Delhi on 12th February 2013 at Talkatora Stadium. The Hon’ble Chief Minister – Mrs. Sheila Dikshit, was the chief guest of the annual eco meet.
The exhibition demonstrated various small and big initiatives towards protection of the environment. Stalls were put up by various schools and colleges of Delhi displaying the various eco friendly items, paintings, showcasing the various activities/projects undertaken by them to conserve and protect the environment and disseminated the knowledge to general public by explaining about their activities, initiatives and responsibilities for environment. School children also put up some cultural performances like Dance, Skit, and Street play etc. on environment in order to create awareness and sensitivity. It was exciting for everybody present and also a great learning experience. Students learnt a great deal from the exhibition.
