Our Green Pledge

At SGS we understand, appreciate and value our green gold (environment). It is important that this precious gift is nurtured, preserved and reserved for the next generation. To ensure our students become global green citizens they are sensitized through awareness programmes, participate in van-mahotsav celebrations and practice and preach the golden rule – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.



21st December 2012 – Role Play

Learning Science is an active process in which students construct their own understanding of the events of life, keeping this view in mind a role play activity was conducted on Friday, 21st December 2012 for students of class VI. The students were actively involved in the activity. They were dressed as lion, snow leopard, yak, fish, blue whale, camel, snake, cactus, pine tree, etc and acted as if they were components of biological system. The activity helped the students to develop their confidence problem solving ability, acquisition of language skills and self concept. Role play activity was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

30th November 2012 - Different Type of Plants

‘Plants are the backbone of life on Earth and an essential resource for human beings’. The importance of the same was depicted by the students of class I-B. The students spoke on different categories of plants like tress, scrubs, herbs, climbers etc. They also provided information on how plants are important in our daily life. In support to their content they recited a poem. In the end an oath was taken by the student to grow more trees so that we can keep our environment ‘clean and green’.

7th November 2012 - Trees Our Green Friends

The relationship between plants and people is a long and continuous one. The same message was strengthened by an assembly presented by students of class II-A on the theme – ‘Trees Our Green Friends’. Students through songs and acts presented different facts on the significance of trees and ways to protect them. Plants are the source of many indispensable products that shape our lives. They act as backbone of all life on earth and an essential source of human being.

In true sense of the word ‘Trees are Our Green Friends’.

5th November 2012 – Making Compost Pit

Compositing is an effective and environment friendly solution for turning yard waste and kitchen scraps into a beneficial soil amendment. In this effect the students of classes VIIA – VIIB made a compost pit; they dug a pit and put layers of different organic materials into it and then they watered each layer of top soil. It was an altogether new experience for the students and it enabled them to understand the importance of having a healthy environment.



5th November 2012 - Tata Power Energy Workshop

It is well said that “Energy saved is energy generated”. To give a shape to this thought a workshop on Power Conservation was organized by Tata Energy Power Club for the students of classes VI – VIII on 5th November 2012. The aim of this workshop was to create awareness among school students who would in turn sensitize their families and neighborhoods to curtail energy wastage through dynamic and innovative measures. School children were trained to understand the basics such as interpretation of electricity bills, steps that will help curb wastage of power at home, school and society with the help of Energy Audits and Energy Calculators, Optimizing the use of electrical gadgets / devices at home with the participation of family members, recording and sharing the effective practices adopted and results within their immediate circle. Students were encouraged to became member of Tata Power Energy Club and also participate in a city quiz which will be organized on 29th November 2012.

18th October 2012 - Rally and Street Play on Resource Conservation

Keeping in tune with the times of scarcity of natural resources, and realizing the immense potential of recycling of wastes and resource conservation, students of Sachdeva Global School, Sector 18 A, Dwarka took the initiative to reach out and educate the immediate environment about the same.

In this endeavour, on 18 October 2012, students of class - X went out to the Sector-6 market to stage a street play “Save water, Fuel, Electricity”. Students of classes VII, VIII and IX also staged a march around the market, catching the eyes of young and old, in turn making them aware about the need to “Reduce, Recycle and Reuse” to make this Earth a healthier place.

20th April 2012 - Earth Day

'Earth Day' was celebrated with the usual fanfare in the school. Mr. Ashish Shah, Deputy Programme Manager of the Environment Education Unit of CSE (Center for Science and Environment) was the special guest. On this occasion a special assembly was conducted and students presented a skit ‘Save Mother Earth’. The message was, stop pollution and grow more trees to maintain a greener and cleaner Earth. A self composed poem ‘Earth Day - My Way’ was recited by students and drew a huge applause.

Mr. Ashish Shah shared his views on the need of preserving and protecting Mother Earth. He reiterated that if we don't save the Earth now, our future generations may not enjoy life on it for long. To mark the event, saplings were planted. Mr. Shah appreciated the school’s effort to save, recycle and reuse paper. He held a session on ‘Hand-Made Paper Making. It was an interesting session for the students who watched in sheer amazement, step by step process of converting old paper into pulp and finally into new paper. They pledged to use this technique and produce handmade paper through the year and use it in the best possible ways.

It is imperative for everyone to realize the grave importance of saving environment from further collapse and preserving it for the future.

19th April 2012 - Grocery Bag Project

The Grocery Bag Project was done by the students of the whole school. This is the third consecutive year of continuing to spread awareness about the use of paper bags rather than plastic. Students coloured and decorated the eco friendly grocery bags brought from local Grocers and wrote slogans and messages for saving the planet by conserving water, energy and trees. They made beautiful posters and wrote their messages on them.

These bags were returned to the Grocery Stores in Dwarka, where the customers got the message loud and clear! Students met the customers in the stores and urged them to use handmade bags made of cloth or jute and say "NO” to plastic bags, thereby ensuring a cleaner and greener planet Earth.

13th April 2012 - Best Out of Waste

“Let the waste not be a problem,
let the waste serve a purpose”

Students of Classes IX – X came up with a novel way of using old newspapers and magazines to make useful things. Old newspaper was rolled to make paper straws in large numbers. Groups of students worked in teams and pasted these straws on boards of different sizes thus creating paper trays. Paper twisting art was effectively used to make handles for these light but sturdy trays.

It was a fun-filled activity. Students enjoyed doing it, proudly displaying their creation at the end and realizing that recycled paper can be put to so many uses!
Let us go green!



28th March 2012 – Best Change Maker of Delhi

Once again, the SGS community has done it!

SGS has been felicitated by Centre of Science and Environment for implementing the Green School Programme to bring a positive change in the school environment. The silver badge, i.e. the second position in the Top Change Makers of Delhi was given to the school for its exemplary performance at the state level.

It was a moment of great pride, both for the school and students as they received the Award from the Honourable Chief Minister of Delhi, Mrs. Sheila Dikshit at India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road. The students and staff took the award as an incentive to achieve greater heights.
