27th November 2010 – Science and Handicraft Exhibition
Science and Handicraft Exhibition was organised in school premises and showcased not only the hard work of our students but also their interest in Science and Craft work. Under the skilful guidance of teachers students made interesting models such as Windmill, Automatic Fire Alarm, Conductors and Insulators, Air & Water Pollution, Water Treatment Plant, etc. However, the Exhibition was not restricted to the amazing work in Science; it had projects from other disciplines like EVS and Geography, which included models of Delta, Geographical divisions of India, Rainwater Harvesting, Solar System, Aquarium and many more.
In Handicraft display section, parents witnessed their children’s art & craft work done till now. Madhubani painting, Tile Painting, T-Shirts with fabric painting and other such beautiful art work done by students were displayed. The toddlers’ craft work was also displayed. It ranged from models of Water Animals, Domestic and Wild Animals, Photo-frames, Decorated Hats, Dolls and so on. This exhibition left the parents amazed and made them feel proud of their children’s’ achievement!
27th November 2010 - Phonological and Phonemic Awareness
Phonemic awareness is the knowledge of sounds of alphabets which can be assembled in various ways to make different words. Once a child is aware of phonetics, he/she knows that sounds are like building blocks that can be used to build different words. A workshop on ‘Phonological and Phonemic Awareness’ was organized by the school for Elementary Teachers of various institutions in and around Dwarka. The resource person was the renowned Phonetic expert, Mr. Tim Rutter who enriched teachers’ knowledge on Phonetics and emphasized the need of incorporating it at an early stage. Teachers found the workshop relevant and enriching.
26th November 2010 – One Nation Reading Together
“One Nation Reading Together” activity was held in the school premises. An initiative of Scholastic India Pvt. Ltd, its purpose is to show the readers the power of books. All the students from Saplings - IX participated in this activity. Students of Elementary Classes also participated in their own way. The teachers read out stories to them and showed them beautiful illustrations as well. Classes I – IX assembled in the ground and all of them read together. They also took a pledge to read everyday. The pledge was written by Anushka Ravishankar. Children were thrilled to get an additional chance to read their choicest books!
15th November 2010 - Intra Class Yoga Competition
Intra Class Yoga Competition was organized for students of Classes II and III. In groups of 4 students from each class performed yoga asanas. There were two rounds in this competition. The best performer from each group was selected in the first round while in the final round selected students from each section performed the asanas and were observed closely by the instructors.

12th November 2010 - Childrens’ Day Celebration
Teachers of SGS presented a special assembly to celebrate ‘Childrens’ Day’. They danced to the rhythm of “Old McDonalds had a Farm” and a thunderous applause followed. A group of teachers presented a skit ‘Akbar and Birbal’, which was not only hilarious but also gave a message that, we should accept our mistakes and try to rectify them.
Apart from this special assembly, the teachers had planned games for students of all age groups. There were games like Obstacle Race for Class – II, Bull’s Eye for Classes III - IV, Tunnel Ball for Classes V – VI, Balloon War for Classes VII – VIII and Balloon Mania for Class – IX. Students loved playing these games and thoroughly enjoyed them!
9th to 11th November 2010 - Childrens’ Day Carnival
The school campus was brimming with excitement as students geared up to participate in the Children’s Carnival. “Junior Sports India” had organized sports and leisure activities for children of different age groups. The three-day program emphasized on participation, skill development and having fun! Different games were played to develop:
- Spatial awareness
- Perceptual motor skills
- Basic throwing, catching, kicking and striking skills
- Fun team spirit
Children enjoyed doing the activities which involved hopping, jumping, throwing, catching and lofted kicking. Most of the children performed the activities balancing on one foot, and walking on a line or beam showing great control of their bodies. They had wonderful narrations of their experience!
8th November 2010 - Inter Class Extempore Competition
Inter Class Extempore Competition was organized for the students of Classes II – IV to develop the skill of public speaking. This was an endeavour to help them face the audience and share their views on a given topic at the spur of the moment. Students spoke on a variety of topics, which were picked up at random. Some of the topics on which the students spoke were – “My Favourite Sports Star”, “Our National Bird” and so on.

3rd November 2010 - Rangoli Competition
With Diwali festivity in the air, Inter House Rangoli Competition was organised for the students of Classes VI - IX. Displaying their talent, students of the four houses made beautiful rangolis using art materials like fresh flower petals, colours, diyas and many more.
The rangolis were done creatively by all the house teams. Glory House stood first in the competition while Peace House got the second prize.
3rd November 2010 - Diwali (Special Assembly)
“Diwali” the festival of lights, illuminates the darkness of the New Year’s moon, and strengthens our friendship and knowledge with self-realization! On the day of Diwali, people decorate their houses, make colourful Rangolis and light oil lamps and colourful lights. Our school celebrated this festival by conducting a host of activities such as Diya Making Activity, Rangoli Competition, Card Making & Poster Making. Tiny Tots of Buds, presented a special assembly on the eve of Diwali festival. The little ones were beautifully dressed up in traditional attire. The importance of this festival was discussed followed by a song “Diwali Aayi, Diwali Aayi” which they sang in rhythm along with actions.
Class – VII presented the Special Assembly for senior school. The students acquainted their fellow friends with various tales related to the festival of Diwali. They also presented a skit inspiring others to shun crackers to safeguard the environmental issues. Making the occasion more auspicious a large group of students from Classes III – VI presented a dance on ‘Ganesh Aarti’ and spread the festive mood.
1st to 2nd November 2010 – Rally “Say No To Crackers”
The School organized Anti-cracker campaigns appraising students and general public about the harmful effects of fire-crackers. Students of Classes VI to IX were active participants of this “Say No To Crackers” campaign planned to create awareness about the impact of crackers among the masses.
On Monday, 1st November 2010 students visited nearby societies and Central Market Area, Sector – 6 and Sector - 10, while on Tuesday, 2nd November 2010 the rally covered Sector – 12 Market. Students met people who were shopping and stressed upon the need of celebrating ‘Eco-Friendly Diwali’. The response of the general public was encouraging as they also promised to “Say No To Crackers” and help in making Delhi safe, clean and devoid of noise and air pollution.
1st November 2010 – Poster Making Competition
Poster Making Competition was organised for the students of Classes II - IV. The theme of the Competition was “Say No To Crackers”. Students sketched and painted meaningful drawings and messages depicting the hazards of bursting crackers. The winners of Poster Making Competition were:
