31st December 2011 – Trip to Adventure Island
To break the monotony of routine school life an adventurous and exciting trip to ‘Adventure Island’ Rohini was conducted by the school for students of Classes IX – X.
Brimming with excitement they boarded the buses along with their teachers at 08:45 a.m. and reached there by 10:15 a.m.
The popular hangout for fun loving youngsters was bustling with cheerful people squealing in delight. The place was full of adventurous and thrilling rides. The tickling pendulum taking the riders to the extreme height, the rolling twister turning you upside down, the exciting flip flop ride moving at 360° and the scintillating and refreshing splash down ride were the favourite of everyone.
They zoomed to astonishing heights and experienced unmatched thrills on these rides. Two to three rounds of joyous experiences on the various rides seemed to be sufficient for them.
Refreshment and lunch was organized for which the children had to be coaxed to leave the rides.
This trip loaded with fun proved to be a rejuvenating experience for the students. As they returned to school in the evening they had interesting talks to share with their family members who had come to pick them up.

We at SGS believe in the philosophy of learning by doing and seeing. Students of Classes Buds – I visited a church for better understanding of this place of worship. The ambience was beautiful with candles lighting up the entire church. The serene place of worship had a calming effect on all young learners, and helped in fostering the feeling of oneness and one God. They enjoyed singing their favourite Christmas carol - Jingle Bells and chanted some prayers. Making wishes to ‘Santa Claus’ they prayed to get their wishes fulfilled. The priest of the church shared wise words and the Lord’s sayings. Cakes were distributed to the students and everyone received a copy of the holy Bible.

5th December 2011 – Disaster Management
Disaster – as the very name suggests, is an occurrence causing widespread destruction and distress. Proper management of disasters ensures safety and security of an organization or community.
Schools play a vital role in the community and are important elements of values and culture of the society. In order to prepare teachers and schools to face calamities with fortitude, courage and presence of mind, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), South West Delhi, organized orientation programme for teachers A “Drop, Cover and Hold” Workshop was conducted for school teachers at Health Centre Najafgarh. In this work shop, our school was represented by our Physical Education Teacher, Ms. Pooja Sharma.
Deputy Director Education, Mr. Jang Bahadur graced the occasion as chief guest. District Programme officer Mr. Ram Chandra deliberated on disaster preparedness and mitigation. It was an informative session for updating knowledge and the benefits of “Drop, Cover and Hold” Drill were demonstrated. According to the DDMA making evacuation drill a routine affair in schools is a good way to be prepared for disasters. SGS has already trained the staff and students and has regular mock evacuation and fire safety drills conducted for the school community.
3rd December 2011 – Phonetics Workshop
Phonetic awareness is like a fore runner to understanding the sounds of written words. The school organized a Phonetic workshop for teachers, wherein Play schools of Dwarka were also invited.
The aim of the workshop was to share the knowledge of phonetics. The resource person was Mr. Prem Malik, who has been conducting seminars and workshops on Phonetics. The session started with the teachers singing to the tune of ‘Jingle Bells’, followed by a discussion on whether the pronunciation of the lyrics were correct or not. From here, Mr. Prem Malik took it ahead, introducing the teaching fraternity with correct sounds of letters of the English Language. He also emphasized on mastering the skills in voice and accent training, which can further help the teachers in pronouncing the words correctly.
Recapitulation of the session was done by means of ‘Phonetic Games’ to check and reinforce the concept of correct sounds and speech. This session, undoubtedly, helped all present there in honing their language skills and being better prepared to teach their pupils.
This workshop was part of our endeavour to help the teaching community to understand the demands of the early readers.
