The right to express our opinion, the right to be heard, the right to free speech is one of our fundamental rights. It is the gift of Democracy. It is the sign of independence, so what better way to celebrate our 66th year of Independence than debate. In the words of Jesse Jackson Delibration and debate is the way you stir the soul of our democracy.

On 14 August 2013, am Inter-house Debate Competition was organised on the topic, “Universal brotherhood is more important than patriotism”. The event provided the students a platform to express their ideas, opinion, and thoughts on the topic. Soon a soul stirring, energetic, and heated debate ensued where students came up with arguments on both the importance of patriotic fervour and significance of Universal brotherhood in the age of globalization.

The debate saw two students from each house speaking in the favour and against the motion. While some students argued that patriotism is the pillar on which a nation stands, others argued that it’s a mere step towards attaining universal brotherhood. Great visionaries like Buddha, Christ, Confucius, all carried the baton of universal brotherhood while some students felt that to attain universal brother hood it is imperative to first establish internal brotherhood within a country Charity begins at home.

The head of our school, Mrs. Novita Chopra and Academic coordinator Mrs. Sumana Dutta chaired the session. They applauded the performance of the participants. Harmony House stood first, while the second position was bagged by Pride House.
