“Once you label me, you negate me.” – Soren Kierkegaard
Despite humanity taking giant strides in the field of education, technology and inter-cultural
communication; barriers in the form of stereotypes, prejudices and class-assumptions are still an
inextricable part of our social-fabric. Preconceived notions such as women cook, men don’t cry or that
specially-abled people lack the skills to take up leadership positions are a major hindrance in the holistic
growth and development of humanity. In the third issue of our Annual magazine “Alchemy 2018-19”, we
raise a toast to all those inspirational figures that shattered the glass-ceiling by rising above such barriers
and gained recognition in their respective fields.
A ‘glass ceiling’ is a metaphor used to represent an invisible barrier that keeps people from rising beyond a
certain level in a hierarchy. This barrier can be linked to money, gender- stereotypes, societal expectations
etc. and can serve both as an inspiring force and/or a debilitating one in an individual’s journey to success.
We hope that in today’s tumultuous times, the magazine serves as a beacon of hope and empowers our
readers to fight such barriers and supports those who are fighting them. The very first step in fighting these
barriers is recognizing that they exist and “Alchemy 2018-19” endeavors to bring these invisible barriers to
the forefront and develop the critical awareness among our readers to overcome them.
Happy Reading to one and all!
Best Wishes
