February 2014 – Selected for Trinity Grade II Examination

Congratulations!!! Tavish Sharma (Class XI) and Ruchir Dhingra (Class IX) for having cleared GRADE - 1 of Piano curriculum of "Trinity College, London", with merits. They have been awarded with Merit Certificates and are now qualified to appear for grade II examination in Piano.






February 2014 – Flag Week For the Cause of The Deaf

All India Federation of the Deaf is an apex body of different affiliated organizations, spread all over India and serves the deaf community in elevating overall quality of life of the Deaf. Globally, it works with World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), Helsinki, Finland, which is in turn affiliated to UNESCO, UNICEF and ILO of United Nations Organization (UNO) to pursue their policies and programs for empowerment of persons with disabilities as per provision laid to U.N. Human Rights for the disabled.

Like every year, this year also All India Federation of the Deaf is organized 56th Flag Week from 1st February 2014 onwards for the cause of the Indian Deaf Community.

SGS Staff, Students and Parents donated whole heartily for the cause. A draft of Rs. 12,754/- was sent.





28th February 2014 – National Science Day

National Science Day is celebrated every year on 28th February. This year, class IV-B got the opportunity to present the assembly to commemorate the legacy of Sir C. V. Raman.

It marked the discovery of the Raman Effect by the Indian physicist Sir Chandra Sekhara Venkata Raman on 28th February 1928.

The students highlighted the objectives of celebrating this day along with the theme of the year 2014 which is: ‘’Fostering Scientific Temper’’ and ‘’Energy Conservation’’.

The assembly successfully ignited the natural curiosity of student’s minds and proved to be one more step towards the development of scientific attitude.

28th February 2014 – QUIZ- Famous Personalities of India

From time immemorial, our country has been blessed with special personalities. In order to enhance the knowledge of our students about these great people, a Quiz Competition was organized for the students of Class I on 28th February 2014. The theme of the competition was ‘Famous Personalities of India’. Twelve students were selected for the competition on the basis of their individual performance in the preliminary round. Six teams of two students each participated in the quiz. There were six rounds of questions in which questions were asked about the famous freedom fighters, politicians, actors, sportspersons, musicians and dancers. The students participated with great zeal and enthusiasm. This competition motivated the children to take inspiration from the all time great Indian people who through their sheer determination, hard work and achievements have secured themselves a place in the list of famous personalities of India.

28th February 2014 – My Favourite Story Book Character

An inter-class enactment competition on the topic - My Favorite Story Book Character, was organized for the children of class II on 28th February 2014. The children represented their favorite story book characters like Cinderella, Akbar, Snow White, Robin Hood etc.

The spectators enjoyed the performance of all the participants as it was fun to see favorite characters performing live on stage. All the participants were beautifully dressed as different characters. The use of beautiful props added exquisiteness to the performance of these budding artists. The children also narrated interesting stories to depict the personality and traits of the characters that amuse them.

The competition gave them an opportunity to not only explore their favorite story book characters and speak about them, but also gave them stage confidence.

27th February 2014 – Delhi State Best Student Award by Paryavaran Mitra

We are glad to announce that S. Padmashree (young leader for change) has been awarded the Best student award at state level.

The State Level Paryavaran Mitra Puraskar Jury for the Delhi NCR region was organized by CEE Delhi on Thursday, 27th February 2014 at the India International Centre, New Delhi. A total of 12 schools and 6 students shortlisted for the Best School and the Young Leader for Change awards respectively were invited to present their projects after the screening of the reports.

The schools and students made presentations of their projects in a prescribed format which was judged by a panel of eminent jury members comprising Dr Dinesh Kumar, Additional Director, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangthan, Prof Manjula Batra, Dean, Faculty of Law, Jamia Milia Islamia, Dr Kiran Chokkar, Independent Consultant and Mr Sandeep Sethi, Education Officer, Central Board of Secondary Education.Mr Devinder Singh Arora, General Manager, Arcelor Mittal, supporter and partner of the Paryavaran Mitra Programme gave away the awards.

26th February 2014 – Books Are Best Friends

"Books feed the mind and the soul"

With the view of highlighting the importance of books, a special assembly was conducted by class II - A on 26th February 2014. The children spoke beautiful lines with an objective of highlighting the significance of reading books. They emphasized upon the fact that reading books empower us with knowledge, experience and wisdom to transform us into better human beings. The young children laid stress upon the fact that books are the primary source of information by highlighting the importance of reading and acquiring knowledge through text books.

The children also laid stress upon the fact that books enable the learners to communicate and express freely. They also stressed upon the fact that books improve the ability of observation and provides pleasure and satisfaction.

The assembly also stimulated thoughts like " Today a reader, Tomorrow a leader " and "Reading without reflecting is like eating without digesting" to inculcate reading habits among the children.

All the children spoke with poise and the props added exquisiteness to the performance of the young children. The beautiful poems spoken by children in Hindi as well as in English spread the message that books are integral part of our lives.

The assembly was a successful effort by the young children to make everyone understand the value of books.

25th February 2014 – Inter House Skating Competition

Interhouse skating competition was held on 25 February 2014. Two students from each house were selected for the finals.

The students performed with enthusiasm and zeal and displayed proficiency in the art of skating.

25th February 2014 – Enactment of Story Characters

“You may leave a story book but you cannot leave the character”

Such is the power of story book characters on a child. Keeping this in mind, SGS organized the competition on “Enactment of Story Characters” for the students of Buds – Blooms on 25th February 2014. Children forgot themselves and took, on the identities of their favourite story book characters like Snowhite, Cinderella, Little Mermaid etc, and also spoke a few lines on their favorite story characters. It was a great learning experience for every student. This competition was thoroughly enjoyed by the judges and audience and kept them captivated till the end.

20th February 2014 – Trip to World Book Fair

To motivate the students to indulge in extensive reading, SGS organized a trip for classes VI - VII to New Delhi World Book Fair at Pragati Maidan on Thursday, 20th February 2014.

The plethora of books on display created an element of fresh curiosity in the students who explored genres which they had hitherto not read. Meeting with authors and participating in puzzle competitions were the highlights of the day. The trip was not only informative and motivating but also extremely entertaining and left each student instilled with love for books.

20th February 2014 – Assembly:- World of Animals

“Animals may be different from us, but may not be less than us.”

A special assembly was conducted by Buds C and D on “World of Animals” on 20th February 2014.

The students talked about various pet, domestic and wild animals along with displaying different props on the theme “Animals”.

Children also recited a rhyme on different animal sounds. At the end, children also emphasized on the values such as “be kind to animals” etc. through various slogans. In all, it was a great performance put together by the students.



18th February 2014 – Scraplabs Workshop

In order to stimulate innovative thinking and promote engineering skills among the students, a scraplabs workshop By Mr. Akshay of Scraplabs ltd. Was organised for classes VI – VIII students. Scraplabs specialises is imparting practical education to the students using ‘Learning by doing’ pedagogy. The workshop comprised practical lessons in assembling an electronic kit by the students, based on step by step instructions imparted through a presentation. The students were provided with individual take away kits to work on and were instructed to assemble electronic circuit boards comprising LED’s in series and parallel configurations.

The workshop, through very basic and limited in scope, provided a glimpse into the scraplabs methodology, which claims to make the students graduate to higher levels of designing and creating robots.

Overall it was a well conducted workshop, which saw an enthusiastic participation from the students.

12th February 2014 – Assembly:- Sweet Memories

“Memory is a diary that we all carry about with us.”

Kindergarten is a special year in a child’s life. In order to treasure and value the Pre-School memories, the students of Buds A and B presented an assembly on “Sweet Memories” on 12th February 2014.

The students emphasized the value and importance of the ending of a very fruitful Pre-School session and enthusiastic beginning of a new session. An introduction about how they behave on the first day and what all they learnt during the whole session including academics as well as co-curricular activities was given by the students in the form of English Poems. Students danced on a melodious song “School Ke Din” joyfully followed by quotation on Pre-School Memories.

Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the extremely thoughtful initiative of the students.

04th February 2014 – Basant Panchami

Basant Panchami is a famous festival that marks the end of winter season and ushers in the spring time. On this day, the goddess of intellect and learning – Goddess Saraswati is worshipped. In this regard, a special assembly was held on 4th Feb 2014, by the students of Class Blooms E. The assembly began with “SaraswatiVandana” by the tiny tots. The children spoke about the importance of BasantPanchami. Beautiful stage decoration and various props used by the students added colour to the stage and was mesmerizing.

1st February 2014 - Farewell at SGS

Our outgoing Globalities (Class XII) had their farewell on 1st February 2014. The event began with a havan for the students where they were given blessings for the forthcoming exams. They were motivated and encouraged by the speech given by our Vice-Chairman Mr. Anil Sachdeva. He elaborated on the fact that their school years were on the verge of fulfillment and they are about to embark on a new journey in their lives. The lessons learnt during school life are the ones that will shape the students future.

This was followed by a cultural programme presented by our very talented Class XI, where they danced, sang and performed a humorous skit to ease the pain of separation for the outgoing Class XII. The students of Class XII also participated in a talent show where each student presented one thing they are good at. After a heartwarming performance Sangharsh of Class XII B and Simran of Class XII A were titled Mr. and Ms. SGS respectively for their outstanding performance. This was followed by a speech given by our Head of School Mrs. Novita Chopra where she challenged the outgoing batch about the reality of life outside the comfortable life in school and encouraged them to work hard for the upcoming board exams. She instilled in them a desire to persevere and also bring honor to their Alma Mater. The farewell ended on an emotional note where one of the teachers Ms. Mansi rendered a heart touching and soul searching speech to bid adieu to our very first batch of Class XI students of SGS Dwarka.
