Earth Day Activities - 20th to 21st April 2011

Several activities were organized by the school on the occassion of Earth Day to create awareness among students. Showing solidarity towards a cause which will help in creating a safer, greener and cleaner world, all students of the school contributed.

21st April 2011 – Earth Day Assembly

Earth Day is a day that intends to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s Natural Environment.

22nd April 2011 is observed as the Earth Day throughout the world. Students of Class I-A and Class V presented a Special Assembly to throw light on the significance of Earth Day.

The Students of Class I were dressed up as trees and some wore sashes with slogans and messages to spread awareness about saving our planet.

The students of Class V spoke about the importance of conserving resources. They presented a short skit throwing light on the significance of saving our planet from destruction.






21st April 2011 – Inter House Debate Competition

To speak anything and everything is not a skill but what makes a difference is the manner in which you present your point and convince the world around you with it. Inter House Debate Competition was organized for the students of Classes VIII - X. The topic for debate was “Industrial Development Vs Environmental Protection.” All students enthusiastically put forward their points of view. The young debaters were fully prepared to fight out their stance. The points given in favour and against the motion were praiseworthy. The house which was adjudged best out of all was ‘Harmony House’. The names of the winners, one each ‘for’ and ‘against’ the motion are:

21st April 2011 – Talk on Waste Management

To sensitize students with the urgency to save the earth and its resources, the school invited Mr. Ashish Shah, Deputy Coordinator, Environmental Education Unit, CSE to speak on the topic of Waste Management. The resource person acquainted students with the havoc caused by the waste produced through human activities. He introduced various means of managing the waste produced by us. The session was quite informative as it not only helped students realize the hazardous effects of their activities on Earth, but also made them aware of their duties as the inhabitants of this planet.

20th April 2011 – Face Mask Making

Face Mask Making activity was conducted for Classes III – IV. The students used coloured paper, colours and other decorative materials to make the mask. They made attractive masks of different animals/birds like elephants, bear, parrot, crow etc. and coloured and decorated them.

20th April 2011 – Poster Making Competition

Every person has his/her way of expressing thoughts. Some may present their views in the form of speech and others by writing. Apart from these there are those who choose colours as a medium to paint their imagination. Giving vent to their creativity, students of Classes V – VI participated in the “Poster Making Competition on Save Earth”. Using magnificent colour combinations students presented their concern towards mother Earth in their own unique styles.

20th April 2011 – Slogan Writing Competition

Slogan Writing Competition was conducted for Classes IX – X, the theme being Earth Day. Students enthusiastically participated in the competition. They worked in groups and used coloured sheets, paints and brushes and came up with thought provoking slogans to spread awareness about Earth Day.

19th April 2011 - Baisakhi

One of the major harvest festivals of North India, Baisakhi was celebrated enthusiastically in school. A special assembly was conducted by students of Class VII. In a simple manner the students acquainted the listeners about the relevance of the festival and how it is celebrated.

Setting the mood on this occasion, students presented a Punjabi dance form “Bhangra” and enthralled the audience.

15th to 16th April 2011 – Roller Skating Championship

Ist “Chaudhary Chand Ram Memorial Roller Skating Championship” was held on Friday and Saturday, 15th– 16th April 2011.

The young skaters of SGS have started making their presence felt in the world of Roller Skating. They participated in this Skating Championship held at Dwarka International School and won 8 medals - 2 Golds, 4 Silvers and 2 Bronzes.

13th April 2011 - Basket Ball Match

It was a red–letter day for Pride House as they stood victorious in the Inter House Basketball Match held in the school premises. The preliminary matches were played between Pride Vs Glory House and Harmony Vs Peace House, where Pride House and Harmony House qualified for the final match, beating their contenders by 6 - 1 and 5 -1 respectively.

Pride House beat Harmony House in the final match and won by a score of 5 – 3.













5th April 2011 - Handwriting Workshop

Handwriting is an essential skill for both children and adults. Even in the age of technology, handwriting remains the primary tool of communication and knowledge assessment for students in the classroom. We follow the Marion Richardson script for written work.

To enhance the handwriting skills of the students Handwriting Workshop was held in school for students of Classes Blooms – X. The script was discussed and students were shown how write it correctly. Students of Junior Classes revised and practiced the alphabets, while students of Senior Classes wrote slogans, messages and poems about saving the earth and making it green and clean.










3rd April 2011 – Judo Gold Cup Championship

Students of SGS, participated in 1st Baba Gang Nath Judo Gold Cup Championship 2011-12, organized by Baba Gang Nath Sports Academy on 3rd April 2011 and brought laurels to our school by claiming 1st and 3rd positions respectively.
